SASAMI lulled me in from the first words of this fantastic album. Every song strikes a deep chord in me- she is channeling something from the very core of being human. The backdrop is stripped down guitar and keyboard pop that veers into heartbeat-quickening shoegaze ecstacy and noise. It's a treat for the heart as well as the mind.
Favorite track: Turned Out I Was Everyone.
The instruments set a precise mood, and the sharp lyrics explore it. Amazing song-craft. My album of the year, and in the running for best album of the last few years. Every song is strong and unique. Feels modern, but with the influences occasionally worn on the sleeve (all impeccable choices from the 80s and 90s). Love this album. Listen to Free and I Was A Window to get a good feeling for what this is about. Enjoy!

SASAMI (Sasami Ashworth) has been making music in almost every way possible for the last decade, and between playing keys, bass, guitar within Cherry Glazerr and Dirt Dress; contributing vocal, string, and horn arrangements to studio albums by the likes of Vagabon, Curtis Harding, Wild Nothing, and Hand Habits; arranging for films and commercials; and even playing French horn in an orchestra - she has gained a reputation as an all-around musical badass. Now taking a turn to focus on her own music, SASAMI's self-titled debut will be out March 2019 on Domino.
This album blew up in 2020, and I was a little late to it, but I've been incredibly impressed by its staying power. A wonderful example of a record becoming a sensation that also holds up as a wonderful artistic statement. Bridgers just impresses more and more. Bryce Cannatelli
